New York, NY—April 26, 2021—The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Chicago will honor Publicis Health as outstanding workplace leader in mental health at this year’s NAMI Chicago Light the Darkness gala and benefit, which will be held Thursday, April 29, 2021. The hybrid event will be accessible via online streaming as well as a VIP in-person gathering at The Geraghty in Chicago.

Past Light the Darkness honorees include Senator Dick Durbin, former congressman and mental health advocate Patrick J. Kennedy, and AT&T Illinois.

With a longstanding commitment to ensuring accessible mental health services to all communities, Publicis Health has partnered with NAMI at the national, regional and local levels, while championing mental health awareness and working to destigmatize mental illness.

“In our industry—healthcare communications—we work across an array of therapeutic areas. In many of these, there’s dignity and a concept of wellness within illness, where we help people live their fullest lives even if they have a diagnosis. However, when it comes to mental health, stigma often prevents people from speaking up. We are honored to receive this award and proud to partner with NAMI and bring hope, dignity, and healing to the one in four Americans struggling with their mental health,” said Alexandra von Plato, CEO, Publicis Health.

Light the Darkness is NAMI Chicago’s annual celebration of hope highlighting progress in mental health. This inspiring event recognizes the achievements and work of advocates, community members, and leaders in every sector who light the way forward for mental wellness in their communities.

“Through its work and through its people, Publicis Health demonstrates a strong commitment to raising awareness and fighting stigma around mental health. The workplace is such an important place to build a culture of wellness, and NAMI Chicago is proud to recognize Publicis Health as an honoree at this year’s Light the Darkness for their outstanding leadership,” said Alexa James, CEO, NAMI Chicago.

Light the Darkness is an anti-stigma slogan that represents the need to shed light on leadership, recovery and progress, in a mental health landscape so often portrayed as being dark and hopeless. While one in four people experience a mental illness during their lifetime, only half will receive treatment of any kind.
